PageTrek
PageTrek is a plug-in module for your web site that enabled advanced page
tracking facilities. You may already generate statistics from your web server
log files to analyse site usage but the data a web server can gather is
generally restricted to the URLs, dates, times and frequencies of pages viewed.
The very nature of the HTTP protocol makes accurate analysis of the log files a complicated task, and one that is open to inaccuracies in processing. A typical web server log file will have recorded the page served and the time of the hit, along with the remote address of the visitor. Other information such as the particular web browser used and the referring web page are also often recorded - though not always. When it comes to processing this data using an analysis tool, it is easy to count up the hits for a particular page, spot the source of heavy usage or even discover which remote sites are sending you traffic. However there is no concrete way of grouping activity within the site to pinpoint particular visitors. A plug-in module for your web site enables much more detailed page and visitor tracking to take place. PageTrek works by intercepting every page viewed on your web site and following that user around the site in real time, rather than attempting to deduce the pages viewed and route followed in retrospect. The report suite in PageTrek is designed to complement existing web statistics, for which you may have already invested in commercial analysis software, and adds the following functionality:
If your web site allows visitors to log in using a personal password, PageTrek can be integrated with your existing software so that visitor sessions are identified as users in your database.
